The young medical marijuana program in Missouri was voted in by the people on November 2, 2018. Six months later, the state Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS) started accepting applications for medical cards. Licensed patients can now obtain medicine through dispensaries across the state of Missouri. As of October 2020, there are approximately 70,000 medical card patients in the state and 192 dispensaries have been awarded licenses.
Beneficial to human's Endocannabinoid System, Missourians can now experience the 100+ different compounds inside cannabis. Compounds like cannabidiol (CBD) and the psychoactive compound, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) may relieve pain, nausea, and other symptoms. The components of this plant are an alternative to harsh prescription drugs and OTCs.
